Retired professor emeritus of geomorphology (landform analyses) from the University of Denver. The principal investigator on numerous research grants concerning disturbed lands, funded by federal government agencies and private industry. Co-author of two books: Geomorphology and Reclamation of Disturbed Lands and Soil Erosion Processes, Prediction, Measurement and Control, as well as author or co-author of several book chapters, and more than 40 professional articles pertaining to erosion, erosion-control, and land reclamation. Co-chair of the national committee that developed RUSLE (Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation) 1.06 for disturbed lands in 1997 and has been involved with RUSLE ever since. Past president of the American Society of Mining and Reclamation, received their Reclamation Researcher of the Year award in 2002, and received the William T. Plass Award for life-time achievement in 2008.
Involved in the sedimentation and weed issues of Shadow Mountain Lake, Colorado in the 1980s and 1990s. He served on the Chautauqua Lake Association, Board of Directors in 2017 and 2018. He prepared a detailed report on selected lake-science topics pertaining to Chautauqua Lake in 2018.

Member of the Pennsylvania Bar. Practices environmental and other areas of law for over 30 years. Serves as Chief Environmental Counsel for a large industrial manufacturing company. Prior to that, practiced law at a large law firm in Pittsburgh, focusing on environmental law and minerals law. Began his practice of law at the Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission (now call the TCEQ). Prior to law school, he worked as a petroleum engineer for two major integrated oil companies.
Earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Texas School of Law in 1992, where he served on the Texas Environmental Law Journal. Admitted to practice in Pennsylvania. Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering, cum laude, from The University of Texas.
