To assist the public in identifying wetland areas that may be jurisdictional, DEC has produced non-regulatory Informational Freshwater Wetland Mapping.
For reference shown here are the OLD (<2025) regulatory maps of freshwater wetlands surrounding Chautauqua Lake.
Impact of regulated wetlands on herbicide treatment plans (through 2024)
DEC Regulations include a 100′ buffer surrounding deliniated regulated wetlands, which are also subject to wetland regulation
To date (through 2024), these areas have been avoided in herbicide treatment permit applications due to added complexity, cost and timing
This illustration shows an example of the projected areas of navigable water that the DEC may classify as wetland starting in 2025. The North Basin is also expected to be impacted where submerged vegetation is documented.
