Shown here are the current freshwater wetlands surrounding Chautauqua Lake. These are all on land, and are what we would normally recognize as wetland based on the webster dictionary definition : land or areas (such as marshes or swamps) that are covered often intermittently with shallow water or have soil saturated with moisture
DEC Regulations include a 100′ buffer surrounding deliniated regulated wetlands, which are also subject to wetland regulation
To date (through 2023), these areas have been avoided in herbicide treatment permit applications due to added complexity, cost and timing
