Weed Treatment Week of June 14

Beginning this Wednesday, June 17th, the firm Ready Scout will begin conducting selective, spot treatment of the invasive plant Eurasian watermilfoil (milfoil) around portions of the southern basin of Chautauqua Lake. The application may extend into Thursday or Friday to complete.

The herbicide being applied to milfoil is ProcellaCOR EC, a low dose, systemic herbicide that controls milfoil but not most other plants. ProcellaCOR does not restrict swimming, fishing or potable water use. Use of lake water for broadleaf plants (not grasses) will be restricted for a week or more water samples can be collected and analyzed.

In addition to milfoil treatment, the area in Celoron along the marinas will also be treated for nuisance weeds using a broad-spectrum herbicide, Komeen Descend. Per NYS regulations, potable use of lake water will be restricted by the treatment for a week or more.

Other Commercial/Navigation zones that have been approved by NYSDEC permit are not sufficiently “weedy” to justify treatment at this time, but may be treated later in the summer.
