Update 06/12/26:

Proposed EWM/ProcellaCOR treatment areas were inspected for plant presence & growth and approved by the DEC on 6/10/26.  The final treatment plan map is now posted here and the applicator will be on the lake next week.  Based on minimal growth at this time, treatments for commercial/navigation zones will be limited to the  Celoron marinas during this window, with later treatments possible if conditions warrant.

Update 06/04/2026:

Final inspection for the 1st 2026 EWM and for commercial/navigation treatments is scheduled for next week.  This is slightly later than usual due to the extended cool spring weather conditions.

Update 05/11/2026:

Pondweed treatment was completed on May 5, 2026.  Only 80 acres of the 163 DEC final approved acreage was treated due to lack of final approval by North Harmony at the final stage.

Update 04/23/2026:

Field inspection with DEC was completed for finalizing treatment areas for curly leaf pondweed on 4/22.  Of the potential 416 eligible acres (in participating towns and not in fish exclusion zones) identified from last year’s spring survey, 163 acres were found to have enough clp presence for treatment.  We think its possible that the lengthy period of ice cover this past winter may have killed some back in shallower areas.  Treatment is expected to occur approximately at the end of April or first week of May, per the map posted here.

Field inspection for milfoil and navigation/commercial zones will occur in May, with treatment tentatively planned for mid to late June.

Update 02/06/2026:

Letters of notification to riparian owners were mailed starting on Feb 7, 2026.  Click on the following links to learn more about how we are adjusting the approach in 2026 to be more effective and efficient.

The following table shows the products applied in each year, the acres initially requested and the acres approved and applied after DEC field verification.  For reference, the entire area of Chautauqua Lake is ~13,000 acres and the littoral zone is ~4,400 acres.
