As you know, there has been a lot of activity on the lake regarding the Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs). Below, find an article from the August 31, 2020 Post Journal that summarizes the work that the scientists from the Engineer Research and Development Center, a laboratory of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and AECOM engineering, have been doing over the past week deploying new HAB mitigation technology on Chautauqua Lake. The program, which runs Aug. 19 to Sept. 4, is part of a pilot program called the Harmful Algal Bloom Interception, Treatment, and Transformation System (HABITATS) that we told you about a few weeks ago. This is just an experimental endeavor at this point. There may be opportunity in the future for this type of technology to help reduce the HABs in the lake.
