Field inspection with DEC to finalize herbicide treatment areas for curlyleaf pondweed was completed on April 22, 2026. Of the 416 potentially eligible acres (in participating towns and not in fish exclusion zones) identified in last year’s spring survey, 163 had pondweed for treatment. The lengthy ice cover this past winter may have killed some of the pondweed in shallower areas. The revised map identifying the areas where pondweed was prevalent is posted here. The areas in yellow are where pondweed will be targeted with herbicides; the areas in orange are fish-exclusion zones where herbicides cannot be applied. Herbicide treatment is expected at the end of April or the first week of May.
